A Magical Place For Me…
Some restaurants are more than just a place to eat. For me, the Corrales Bistro Brewery (CBB) is one of those places.
During the first week of June, 2008, Jane and I were searching for a home to buy. On Tuesday and Wednesday, we narrowed the selection to two: one in High Desert and one in Corrales. A dear friend suggested that we go to the CBB with her on Wednesday night to meet some Corraleños. Ate on the back patio, listened
to Rex’s music, and chatted with some locals. We decided that we had to live here. On Friday, our agent presented an offer that was accepted on Saturday at 2:00. I went back to Maryland to pack, settle the sale of our house there, retire from my job, and get here. We moved in 26 days after acceptance. Our house is a short walk from CBB. We are in heaven.
Oh yeah, the food. Sandwiches, wraps, superburgers, salads, and more are all very good. My favorite is still the New Mexico Tortilla Burger: Half pound burger wrapped in a tortilla with queso, green chile, romaine lettuce, onion, and fire roasted salsa. This burger, while not my usual competition-style Green Chile Cheeseburger, is easily among my favorite burgers in the Duke City. Cooked to a perfect medium rare, it is very tasty and three-napkins juicy. I never add the lettuce and onion to the burger, but eat them
separately. It is served with a huge order of mixed potato and sweet potato fries that are properly done: crispy and not flaccid or soggy. Put some green chile on the fries. Smoky taste and medium piquancy, Good accompaniment. Try this with a Marble IPA from the tap (my favorite IPA).I almost always get this marvelous burger when I go to the CBB, which is but a short walk from my house on Carretera Casa Vieja Escuela.
Service is fine, music is fine, and sitting on the patio with good friends in the evening watching the mountain turn watermelon is magical. Corrales is magical. I’m blessed to be living here.
